Axiom Pad — FAQ & Troubleshooting
This page answers the most common questions about Axiom Pad, the free chart-side pad for NinjaTrader 8. Axiom Pad keeps your trading checklist and notes pinned to the chart so your process stays in front of you while you trade.
Which NinjaTrader version do I need?
Requires NinjaTrader Desktop 8.1.5.0 or later on Windows. Update NinjaTrader before importing if your installed version is older.
Is Axiom Pad really free, and how do I get it?
Yes, Axiom Pad is completely free. To get it, enter your email on the Price Axiom site and confirm it through the link we send you. That confirmation lets you create a free Price Axiom account. Once you are signed in, open the My Products section, set your NinjaTrader activation email, download the package, and import it into NinjaTrader. There is no purchase step and no recurring fee.
What is the NinjaTrader activation email, and why does it matter?
The activation email is set in My Products on your Price Axiom account, and it should be the *same* email you use to log in to NinjaTrader. This is how the download is tied to you. You can change the activation email once every 24 hours, so set it carefully and give it time before changing again.
Does Axiom Pad give trade signals?
No. Axiom Pad is a process tool for checklists and notes only. It does not generate signals, fire alerts, or place trades. It simply keeps your own rules, reminders, and observations visible on the chart while you make your own decisions.
How do I add Axiom Pad to a chart?
After importing the package, open the chart you want to use, add an indicator as you normally would, then go to the Indicators menu, open the PriceAxiom folder, and choose Price Axiom Pad. It works on any instrument and timeframe using normal chart data, so no special feed is required.
Can I run more than one pad on a single chart?
Yes. You can add multiple Axiom Pad instances to the same chart, and each one keeps its own content, layout, theme, and settings. Every pad autosaves independently, so they each restore on their own after a reload or workspace change. This lets you keep, for example, a checklist pad and a separate notes pad side by side.
How do I switch between Checklist and Note mode?
Axiom Pad has two document modes. Checklist mode gives you multi-line items with clickable on-chart checkboxes and an optional completion score, while Note mode is for freeform multi-line text with a live preview. Open the editor from the header settings button and select the mode you want for that pad. Each pad can be set to whichever mode suits it.
How do I format my text?
Axiom Pad uses a simple markdown-lite syntax that works in both the on-chart view and the editor preview. Wrap text in ** for bold, in * for *italic*, and in backticks for inline code. To add a hint line under an item, start the line with a > marker. If a marker is malformed or unpaired, the text safely falls back to plain rendering instead of breaking. In the editor, a small ? help glyph on hint rows reminds you of the supported markers.
My checklist or notes disappeared after I reloaded the chart. What happened?
Each pad automatically saves its own content, layout, and theme and restores them when you reload a chart or workspace.
If a pad appears empty after a reload, Axiom Pad tries to recover its saved content automatically. Unreadable files are kept as backups instead of being overwritten. If your content does not return, check the pad settings and saved content before making further changes.
The panel header shows a red "[!] SAVE FAILING" warning. What does it mean?
The pad could not write its state file to disk, and the problem is persisting across retries. Your checklist or note keeps working on the chart, but changes are not being saved, so they would be lost on a reload. Check that your disk is not full, that the NinjaTrader documents folder is writable, and that no backup or sync tool is locking the folder. The warning clears on its own once a save succeeds.
Why do I have empty pads, or pads that seem to multiply?
Each pad keeps its own saved content. If you duplicate a chart or pad, the copy becomes independent so that changes to one pad do not overwrite the other. Both pads can restore their own checklist or note after a reload.
How do I save a reusable pad?
Open the editor from the pad's header settings button (or double-click the panel header), build your checklist or note, and use the Save button to write it out as a named, reusable pad file. Later, on any pad, use the Load button to bring that saved file into the current instance; loading it also persists it as that pad's state. The editor's file label always shows which saved file you are working with — or "unsaved pad" if there is none — and the New button starts a fresh pad, prompting you to save or discard first if the editor holds content. This lets you keep a library of standard checklists or note templates and drop them onto any chart. Note that the Apply button is different: it updates the live chart panel and saves the current instance, but does not create a reusable file.
Can I move, resize, or hide the panel?
Yes. The floating panel can be dragged to any position, resized on both width and height from the corner grip, and collapsed or expanded on demand. You can also adjust the panel opacity, and long checklists or notes can be scrolled inside the panel. If a saved position ends up off-screen, the pad snaps back into the visible chart area automatically.
Can the footer brand text be hidden?
No. The footer text, "Axiom Pad • priceaxiom.com," is a fixed branding element of the free version and cannot be turned off. The footer text color is not user-configurable, and the pad enforces a minimum contrast against the panel background so the branding stays readable on any theme. This is the trade-off that keeps Axiom Pad free.
Does Axiom Pad require Cognitive Hub or any other product?
No. Axiom Pad is fully standalone. It does not depend on Cognitive Hub or any other Price Axiom product to run. You can use it entirely on its own as a chart-side checklist and notes panel.
